About this program
The Science Communication Program is a Stage 2 and Stage 3 Camp that teaches students to observe that natural environment, and to communicate information about the environment using a range of media.
Activities
Each year the activities will change. For 2026 we have a special guest teacher from Field of Mars EEC in Sydney who will conduct workshops over the two days of camp. Both workshops, use the natural world around Thalgarrah EEC and iPads (provided).
The activities are:
Cinematographer is a Stage 2 and Stage 3 English and Creative Arts HPGE enrichment program where students plan, film and edit persuasive environmental short films. Students analyse how campaign videos shape audience response, then use the forest around Thalgarrah EEC as a filming location to apply camera angles, composition, sound, text and transitions. Completed films communicate a clear message about the value of nature. HPGE domains: creative, intellectual.
Field guide is a Stage 2 and Stage 3 Creative Arts and Science and Technology HPGE enrichment program where students become field naturalists, nature journalists and digital artists. Using iPads and Procreate, students photograph natural specimens, explore bushland colour palettes, observe living and non-living features and create digital artworks. Students produce a multi-page field guide that curates their science and creative learning. HPGE domains: creative, intellectual.

This program will be delivered once throughout 2026:
- Tuesday-Wednesday 18-19 August 2026 (Term 3, Week 5, National Science week)

This program is designed to cater for students from multiple schools. Please note that program capacity is capped at 30 students in total. Each school is able to nominate a maximum of 6 students per date.

Program may be modified, postponed or cancelled due to predicted extreme temperatures, bush fire danger, heavy rainfall, high winds or dust storms. Check the weather forecast for the Armidale area. |
| Medical notifications | Notify us by completing and returning the student welfare form at least one week before the excursion. This form will be sent out upon confirmation of booking. |
