Waterwatch
About this program
Waterwatch is an initiative to help us understand, monitor, care for and sustainably manage our most precious natural asset – water. It is a network of citizen scientists that monitor local waterways – it could be a creek, pond, lake, dam, wetland, lagoon or estuary.
We can offer this experience onsite at Thalgarrah EEC or sites close to your school as a one-off experience.
We can also run Waterbug Watch in Autumn and/or Spring at Thalgarrah EEC or elsewhere.
Thalgarrah EEC staff can assist schools who would like to be involved with Waterwatch in an ongoing capacity in a waterway close to their school.
Activities
By being part of a Waterwatch experience students will do:
Waterbug survey: catch and identify a variety of waterbugs
Water quality testing: test the following parameters - temperature, pH, salinity, turbidity, and rate of flow.
Habitat assessments: of both the aquatic zone and the riparian zone.
