Teach Outside Conference 27-28 March, 2020
This conference is a first for primary school teachers in NSW. It aims to support and encourage classroom teachers on their journey into Outdoor Teaching and Learning. Studies have shown that there are enormous health benefits to children when they participate in outdoor activities (Charles & Senauer, 2010). There is also evidence to support heightened engagement and learning potential when students receive lessons outside ( Kuo et al, 2018). When outdoor learning can be demonstrated as fulfilling the curriculum, this overcomes one of the main barriers to teachers taking their students outside.
Over the course of two days participants will choose from a variety of workshops, each with different curriculum focus. Teachers will go away with ideas and lessons to get their students learning outside straight away. There will be plenty of opportunity for networking, sharing of ideas and brainstorming ways to overcome barriers to Outdoor Teaching and Learning in schools.
